Becky Bowers quoting Sara Quinn. When copy editors and designers work together with their brains, beautiful things happen. This was the beautiful response I got when I asked if I needed colon because of AP style.

I like being an editor. Our photographer and writer are doing a photo audio essay about a boy and father that fish. They’re about half way through and I’m so excited about it.
The photos are sharp and diverse. The audio is beautiful and it’s going to shape into a great story. I’m really glad I get to work with them and craft it.
Everyone’s been working really hard on this bait shop package. I wrapped up Swedish Fish in beachy colored tissue paper and popped it on their desks around 8pm. I’m working on a little quiz thing in Flash too. My photos from the shoot a few days back came in quite handy.

I’m pretty sure sneaking into the Don Cesar hotel pool was the best idea we had all day. Well after deciding to go to the beach in the rain.
Maybe that or chewing off Dorsey and Meg Martin’s ears. That was pretty tangy.
Man, these million hour days are pooptronix. Spent the day out on the beat shooting with a Canon 40D, though. That was hot. Kind of ‘fished out’.
Glad to get a call from former fellow, Billy Kulpa. As usual it was mostly just a game of phone tag.

If you’re going to drop your phone in the ocean, at least wait for the new iPhone.

I’m also wondering when I will get tired of photos of the ocean.

Lots of guest speakers including Al Tompkins and Lane Degregory. Here Jacqui Banasynski gave us the run down on story generating ideas. Brain is a little fried. Tomorrow hittin the streets in Tampa.
Really looking forward to the visual discussions and having wonderful exchanges with the others round here. The roommate finally made it through crappy US Immigration and is here!

This will be a hell of a lot of work. 25 of us are divided into 5 groups with two writers, a photographer, designer and a new role as a producer (me). We are covering the “Beach” beat which we were warned does not have many stories nor is near by. However we’re oozing with story ideas. After our sessions we went back out into the field and paddled our way into the private beach of the Pink Hotel. Perks.

Brian Storm greeted us on our first day at the Poynter Fellowship in St. Petersburg, Florida. Sorry about the low light. And you know… probably going to start the biz soon.
I’m back in Suburbia.
The thing about driving in my car everywhere (aside from it being as expensive as riding the Tube) is that when I walk from the parking lot to the store, it seems odd to be booking it. No rush, no long distances to walk, and driving on pretty much the same 6 roads.
I spent two days hangin around in the Chicago loop. For a flash second I forgot about sky scrapers. When asking people for directions or help, I get a funny look when I give an extra long pause and very polite excuse me. Turns out we speak the same language, have the same accent and I’m on home turf.
When ordering my Taco Bell I can lean all over the counter, think for a while, and if I felt so compelled I couldsay “kaaaay, gimmeee two tacos supreme and grande diet pepsi, and oh yah I need some of those cinnamon twists.” I don’t. I COULD though.
I’ve got about a zillion gigs of photos and minimal energy to upload them. But I will! It’s good to be back though. You miss things (places and people) you become attached to. So hopefully whenever you are leaving somewhere, you have a nice place to move on to.
Since I’ve started university at IU, it’s gotten harder and harder to live in large spaces. I think I’m well suited for something tighter, for the time being. Lucky for me those places are usually cheaper too. As for living out of a backpack… 2 weeks was enough.
