Tory was here for a few days and first and foremost it was wonderful to see him again. I snapped photos during his “How I plan to stay employed for the next 10 years” but they didn’t do him right.
His presentation was wonderful and engaging. Also, I think the designers are quite happy because he had a warm way of sharing his techincal expertise.

Video Conference with Andrew Devigal

Andrew DeVigal shows us the hips and hows of some of the New York Times’ smart pieces online. We asked and asked questions till the cows came home. So much to do from here…
On working with creators
Being a creative manager has it’s challenges, I’d still like to be one.

Steve Dorsey! There are some lucky people at the Detroit Free Press, ie FREEP. Darla and I picked his brain. Please please please bring him back. There is so much more to talk about!
Implications
> There is an implied visual break.
Becky Bowers quoting Sara Quinn. When copy editors and designers work together with their brains, beautiful things happen. This was the beautiful response I got when I asked if I needed colon because of AP style.

I like being an editor. Our photographer and writer are doing a photo audio essay about a boy and father that fish. They’re about half way through and I’m so excited about it.
The photos are sharp and diverse. The audio is beautiful and it’s going to shape into a great story. I’m really glad I get to work with them and craft it.
Everyone’s been working really hard on this bait shop package. I wrapped up Swedish Fish in beachy colored tissue paper and popped it on their desks around 8pm. I’m working on a little quiz thing in Flash too. My photos from the shoot a few days back came in quite handy.
